Mark Steel has been a stand up comedian since 1982, touring theatres around Britain and starring at top clubs in London such as the Comedy Store and Jongleurs. He established his reputation in radio broadcasting with a regular slot on Radio 4s News Quiz and Loose Ends where he met Joseph Heller and Christopher Lee. His latest Radio 4 series Mark Steel's in Town was nominated for a prestigious Sony Award in 2010.
He has written and appeared in four series of The Mark Steel Solution, three for Radio 4, one for Radio 5 Live and a radio series about cricket, which provoked a whole page of fury in the Daily Express. Then there was four series of the The Mark Steel Lectures on Radio 4, followed by three television series of the Lectures on BBC 4 and BBC 2.
He has four books to his credit It's Not a Runner Bean, Reasons to be Cheerful, Vive le Revolution and What's Going On. He currently writes a weekly column in the Independent and has previously written for the Guardian and Socialist Worker.Mark is a familiar face on TV appearing on various shows such as Have I Got News For You and QI, and also Room 101 and Question Time.
