John is available to speak, chair or contribute to a panel on the following subjects:
• the Labour Party
• the reform of the political system
• the public-private balance in health and education
• the role of the media in British politics and society
• inequality: class divides and disparities in parts of the UK
• the debate surrounding the idea of community
John Harris is currently a columnist and writer on the Guardian, where he writes about British politics and society, as well as music and culture. He can talk engagingly and entertainingly about anything from grass roots community organisation to The Rolling Stones.
He is heard regularly on BBC Radio 4 programmes including Any Questions and Great Lives (John Lennon), and is a frequent contributor to BBC2’s The Review Show (Newsnight Review). He has presented documentaries about the so-called ‘Britpop’ scene and the North-South divide for BBC4.
He has written for music magazines NME and Q, and edited Select, before a five year stint writing about music and politics for the Independent and the Independent On Sunday. His books include So Now Who Do We Vote For?, a primer for disaffected Labour supporters published before the 2005 General Election; and The Last Party, an acclaimed pop-cultural overview of the 1990s. His latest book is Hail! Hail! Rock’n’Roll.
